Rat Race The Isles - day 0. Bouncing with Calmac.
"The Isles" is Rat Race's expedition to the Outer Hebrides, a place we've never been. Its a six-day ultra, averaging just over 30 miles a day, which will take us via bog, causeway, bog, hill, bog, ferry and bog from the southern end of the island chain in Vatersay through to the lighthouse at the Butt of Lewis at the very northern end of the chain. It should be quite a trip! On the ferry from Oban to Barra, heading up the sound of Mull. We have another four hours until we get to Castlebay on Barra, but the forecast gale isn't affecting us much at the moment - once we reach the open sea in another hour, it may feel a wee bit different! It did. Certainly a bouncy crossing, although we were both fine.
